Alex Bowman put Axalta’s Primary Colors scheme in victory lane to set off celebrations as the 26-year-old locked up his first career Cup Series win and a spot in the NASCAR Playoffs.
The soggy infield halted the party for a moment when Bowman got his No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet stuck in the grass, but the Tucson, Arizona, native laughed it off.
“I’m the dumb guy that won the race but got the car stuck in the mud,” Bowman said.
That would be far from the end of the first-time winner’s celebration as Bowman and friends partied until the sun came up.
“It’s all I’ve wanted my whole life,” Bowman said after the win at Chicagoland Speedway. “To be here winning a race in the Cup Series means so much. … I am so happy to get this Axalta Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to victory lane and this is one thing I will never forget.”
