Eleven victories, 13 pole positions, four 1-2 finishes, 25 podiums, 10 fastest laps and — most impressively — a championship double. The Mercedes-AMG F1 W09 EQ Power+ put together quite a résumé during the 2018 season.
But the time has come for the W09’s successor, the Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+, to run its first race.
With the book closed on the W09’s run, it’s worth taking a look back at the legacy Mercedes’ title winner created in 2018.
Lewis Hamilton won his fifth career Drivers’ Championship behind the wheel of the W09, becoming just the third driver in the sport’s history to win five titles. Along the way, the 33-year-old matched his career high for wins (11), equaled the F1 record for podiums (17) and became the first driver to top 400 points in a season.
Hamilton combined with Valtteri Bottas, who drove the W09 to the most fastest laps in 2018, to capture another Constructors’ Championship for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport.
The pair of titles marked the fifth straight championship double for the squad, which became just the second team in Formula One history to win five doubles in a row (Scuderia Ferrari from 2000-04).
